Schwarzenbach

Description

Schwarzenbach is located in the Bucklige Welt in the district of Wiener Neustadt-Land - right on the border with Burgenland. The active market town invites its visitors to follow in the footsteps of the Celts: after all, the area was home to one of the most important Celtic settlements in the entire Eastern Alps region in pre-Christian times. Since 1992, intensive archaeological work has been carried out here, which is constantly bringing new and exciting findings.

Schwarzenbach: Family excursions to the Celts

The Schwarzenbach open-air museum provides an insight into everyday life in the Iron Age in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Reconstructed buildings - such as a potter's hut, craftsman's house, huts and stables - as well as gardens and fences invite you to immerse yourself in ancient times. Overnight stays are also possible here.

A family-friendly tour is the Celtic circular hike - an easy route with exciting places along the way. From the "Johann Giefing observation tower" on the Burgberg, you can enjoy magnificent views of Hungary, Burgenland, the "Geschriebener Stein" and the Bucklige Welt.

The Celtic Festival is also an annual fixture in Schwarzenbach: with workshops, music, games, a market and many other attractions, the exciting past is brought back to life for three days.
