Description

Over 2,000 years back in time

On the castle hill of Schwarzenbach, ancient times come to life: In the archaeological open-air museum, visitors can immerse themselves in the everyday life of a Celtic town - just as it might have existed around 500 BC. The site was designed by the Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science (VIAS) in close cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office in accordance with scientific findings and invites you on an impressive journey through time.

Nine reconstructed buildings - from craftsmen's houses to granaries and aristocratic houses - show how people lived and worked in Celtic times. How did they bake, make pottery or work with metal? What materials were available? What traces tell of trade, community and faith?

An exhibition room with original finds and a multimedia presentation complements the reconstructed huts. The Celtic village thus combines research with experience - informative, vivid and authentic. Even finds from the Copper Age (3,000 BC) can be marveled at.

Incidentally, one of the best views in the Bucklige Welt is offered by the Johann Giefing observation tower, right next door (barrier-free access via an elevator or steps).

New Celts

Reenactment groups, families, schools or companies can meet around a large fireplace in the House of the New Celts. This is where modern cultural education, celebrations, incentives and team building take place here .

Celtic Festival Schwarzenbach

A special highlight is the annual Celtic Festivalwhere history, crafts and music find a lively stage. The program lasts 3 days. Between bagpipe music and food grilled over an open fire, visitors can hit the bull's eye with bows, arrows and axes, learn the art of pottery or cheer on the tribes at the Celtic games and show fights. Tip: Get your tickets in advance!
The festival grounds are freely accessible all year round. You can discover many free-roaming animals on the Celtic hill and a few enclosures.
