Burgruine Kirchschlag
Lookout tower, Ruins
Description
Kirchschlag in der Bucklige Welt has historical significance as a fortified border town. This is documented by several monuments, such as the castle ruins with the fire tower. The castle lies 480 meters above sea level and was built in the 12th century. Remains of the former border fortress can still be seen today and the fire tower serves as a lookout point for the Bucklige Welt landscape. The gruesome tales of the women's cage and fratricidal fights originated around the castle and bear witness to life back then.
Events, such as the Kirchschlager Advent market or the Great Knights' Festival in summer, also take place at the castle ruins.
How do you get there?
- Culinary hike through the Bucklige Welt - recommendation: combine with a short break
- WAB stage 5 - Kirchschlag - Bad Schönau
- WAB Regional Route C - Krumbach - Kirchschlag
Several short paths also lead from the town center to the Schlossberg:
- Forest nature trail (circular route)
- Easy path to the castle ruins (also accessible in winter, suitable for baby carriages and wheelchairs )
A path also leads from the hiking starting point behind the Hotel Post Hönig to the castle - but it is narrow and steep and therefore only suitable for sure-footed hikers. This path is closed in winter.
