More than just a garden: the Ecolution.Lab is a place of inspiration, learning and amazement. Landscape architect and garden artist Bernd Hochwartner's vision is to bring nature to life and raise awareness of ecological responsibility. In the impressive show garden in Lichtenegg, he succeeds in doing just that, on an area of around 17,000 m² and with over 2,000 native and exotic plant species. Rare, historic varieties of scented roses, wild shrubs and plants, a wide variety of trees and herbs have been planted with great passion and knowledge over the last 30 years.

At over 700 meters above sea level, amidst the rolling hills of the Bucklige Welt, the fascination for nature and creativity is given free rein.

Diverse plant world & design

The Ecolution.Lab is home to an impressive mix of native and exotic plants. Every corner of the garden offers new surprises and invites you to explore. The lovingly designed terraces with stone walls, hedge strips of wild fruit and groups of trees made from regional shrubs form sun traps that offer protection from wind and weather and are aesthetically pleasing at the same time. The principle of black box gardening is also applied here: plants are allowed to sow and propagate themselves, nature takes the lead and a dynamic garden image is created.
The garden also offers numerous thematic focuses, from sweet and aromatic plants to climate-friendly varieties.

Rainwater management, the use of regional materials and energy as well as traditional craftsmanship are integral parts of the concept.

Fernery:

A special highlight is the Fernery, a temperature-controlled glass house with a canyon formed from 3D-printed concrete elements, which provides a home for subtropical plants, especially ferns.

Guided tours and events

The garden offers guided tours for groups of all sizes all year round by appointment - whether for coach tours or individual visits for two.

Special evenings: Special evenings and events can also be organized at Ecolution.Lab. Whether a contemplative evening with classical music or a special family event - the garden offers the perfect setting and a meeting place for all those who are interested in nature and find a piece of satisfaction in the tranquillity of the garden.
