Description

If Archduke Johann of Austria were in his early thirties today, he would certainly be a start-up founder. There's just one catch: it's been over 150 years since his death in 1859. The Archduke Johann Documentation in Thernberg in the Bucklige Welt commemorates this important lateral thinker.

Johann had the best prerequisites. He was part of the House of Habsburg, an Austrian field marshal and an alert mind. He owned Thernberg Castle and estate for over 21 years and modernized the Bucklige Welt in a sustainable way. He also supported the idea of building the Semmering Railway.

His greatest achievements include experiments to improve agriculture, the establishment of a pomological school, the bringing together of important collections and efforts to document folk culture and customs. Also worth a visit is the Archduke Johann Model Park in Mönichkirchen, where miniatures of the Habsburgs' homes and places of activity can be seen.
