Gut Guntrams
Company / plant tour, Model garden
Description
In the Steinfeld between Seebenstein and Schwarzau there is a small natural paradise called Gut Guntrams. Orchards, ancient oaks and wild plants thrive here on an area of 3.6 hectares. They are lovingly cared for by the non-profit association "Arche Guntrams".
At the heart of this natural environment lies the Edelmacherei, a small agricultural business where the ripe harvested fruit is processed. The pure, naturally cloudy apple juices are particularly popular, but jams ranging from apricots to wild blueberries are also popular to taste and take home.
You can buy the products in the farm store in the Veranda restaurant, which is open from 9 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. As part of a guided tour, you can also take a look inside the glass house where rare citrus fruits ripen, such as the calamondin - a cross between a mandarin and a kumquat (dwarf orange) - or the bergamot. It is used to make the lemon liqueur limoncello. Fancy a taste? The flagship project also offers group tours of the orchard on request.
The latest attraction is the crystal garden, an open-air museum that presents a variety of sparkling and colorful crystals and rock specimens. The centerpiece is a breathtaking, approx. 5-meter-high amethyst druse.
