Holzbräu
Brewery / distillery
Description
Gerhard Holzbauer is an HTL teacher. In 1996, he started to build his own beer plant in his cellar - initially just for his own use. He now brews and sells eight different types of beer, including full moon beer and chili beer, all of which are unfiltered and completely natural.
When Gerhard Holzbauer takes a beer out of the cellar, it's not just a bottle or two. He has several hundred liters of different types fermenting and storing in his cellar. He has an entire brewing plant there: in a 150-liter duplicate kettle, he brews beers that he especially likes himself. These include, for example, a full-bodied, mild lager, red beer, a mild-hopped pilsner and his pleasantly sweet "Stoakbia" with an original gravity of around 36°.
Order and give away individual beers
If you wish, you can order a beer to your own taste from the Holzbauer family if you buy at least 100 liters. It will then be ready in 8 weeks. Thanks to Gerhard Holzbauer's self-built bottling plant, you can also take it home in handy bottles if you wish. And the beer is best presented as a gift in pretty wooden crates.
Holzbräu for cozy evenings and big celebrations
If you would like to try the Holzbräu, you can call the Holzbauer family at any time, order beer and pick it up there: whether you want a few 0.3-liter bottles or several kegs for a big party. The family will also lend out taps and beer glasses free of charge if required. If you want beer in 0.5-liter bottles, you should definitely order in advance - they are not always in stock and can be filled fresh on request.
Beloved traditions: Brewery New Year's Eve and full moon beer tapping
Every year in early autumn, the Holzbauer family organizes a celebration for Brau-Silvester - the start of the new beer year. This tradition dates back to the time before beer could be refrigerated. Back then, brewing was not allowed during the hot season between St. George's Day on April 23 and St. Michael's Day on September 29.
Once or twice a year, the Holzbauer family still has a special celebration: the full moon beer tapping. The most important part of the food there is beer brewed on the night of a full moon.
