Johann Giefing Aussichtsturm
Lookout tower, Scenic lookout
Description
On the 545-metre-high Burgberg, on the border with Burgenland, stands the Johann Giefing observation tower - an architectural symbol of openness and accessibility. At 25.7 meters, it offers impressive barrier-free views: from the Geschriebenstein in Burgenland over the rolling hills of the Bucklige Welt to the Hochwechsel, Rax and Schneeberg.
Thanks to its integrated elevator, the tower was awarded the "Exemplary Accessibility" prize in 2023.
Hiking to the observation tower
You can hike in the footsteps of the Celts around Schwarzenbach. The family-friendly Schwarzenbach Celtic circular hiking trail takes you on a leisurely three-kilometre hike through a varied landscape and to historical landmarks. From the Bründl Chapel to the Celtic festival site and the viewing tower, this is a pleasant walk.
There is also a recommendation for the Schwarzenbach local circular hiking trails - various tours can be put together and chosen from easy to challenging.
Celtic village of Schwarzenbach
Not far from the tower is one of the largest Celtic ramparts in Austria. Since the 1990s, archaeological research has provided exciting insights into the life of the Celts in Schwarzenbach and the surrounding area, long before our time. The scientific findings can be experienced in the Schwarzenbach Archaeological Open-Air Museum, right next door. Nine faithful reconstructions vividly convey the everyday life of the Celtic population.
The tower café
The tower café with its spacious, shady terrace is located on the first floor of the observation tower. Delicacies are served here, mainly made from regional ingredients from direct marketers in Schwarzenbach and the surrounding area. Please note the opening times on the website: www.dasturmcafe.at
Seminar and event rooms
Modern seminar and event rooms are available on the second floor of the observation tower - ideal for seminars, conferences, workshops, celebrations and much more!
