Schloss Katzelsdorf
Fortress
Description
History of the castle
Katzelsdorf Castle, sung about by the minnesinger Ulrich von Liechtenstein, was built in the 12th century and owes its present form to Wolf Mathias Freiherr von Königsberg. The castle has changed hands countless times, including Countess Carolina von Lipona (Napoleon's sister), Marie Therese (Duchess of Angouleme, daughter of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette) and the Duchess of Bourbon-Este (wife of Count Chambord).
Events and Christmas market in the castle
In 1994, it was purchased by the municipality and developed into a supra-regional event and seminar center. Today it is particularly popular as a romantic wedding castle with a registry office. Concerts and cabarets take place here in summer.
Every year, the Christmas market in Katzelsdorf is held in the castle with lots of arts and crafts - the architecture with the large window arches and the huge Christmas tree in the castle courtyard create a festive atmosphere.
