Details for: Marterlweg Edlitz

Brief description

In 5 - 6 hours, the Marterlweg can be explored via Pangart (former GH Handler), Kohlreuth, Sonnberg, Prägart, Winterhof, Grub, Wieden, and Hofstatt, covering the surrounding area of Edlitz in the Bucklige Welt.

This hike is considered a "secret tip" for wonderful and varied views. In the town, the Wehrkirchendokumentation creatively informs about an important historical aspect of the region.

Description

Nineteen wayside shrines or image pillars can be found in this area. Anyone who wants to visit them all has a long hike ahead. The reward is numerous views of the 1000 hills of the Bucklige Welt and the adjacent Alps. The route can also be shortened at various points.

In the village of Edlitz, you can stop for traditional tavern cuisine or Greek-influenced dishes at Gasthaus Taverne Grüner Baum, and the Wehrkirchendokumentation conveys part of the history of the region in an interesting way.

Author's tip

Edlitz offers two real insider tips for overnight guests:

  • Farm holiday at Wachahof
  • Das Paradieschen - holiday cottage for two

Dining:

  • Gasthaus Taverne Grüner Baum

The region is strongly shaped by the defensive churches and their history. The topic is well prepared in the Wehrkirchendokumentation in Edlitz, which is also interesting tactically/sensorially for visually impaired persons. The modern exhibition is accessible after collecting the key from the municipal office or at Gasthaus Taverne Grüner Baum.

The defensive church in Edlitz can also be visited by appointment at the municipal office and is considered one of the most beautiful and interesting examples.
