Details for: WEATHER EDUCATIONAL TRAIL Hollenthon

Brief description

Everyone is interested in weather! The weather educational trail also describes weather phenomena around the world in a hands-on way.

Description

The weather educational trail was created with great commitment by the Hollenthon village renewal association. Great thanks go to our local meteorologist Martin Puchegger, who is responsible for the professional textual design of the path. Information is available on the dedicated weather educational trail homepage under Weather Educational Trail Hollenthon.

The path is paved for 2/3, and 1/3 of the path is a gravel path, which is also easily accessible with a stroller.

In winter, the path is cleared and can be walked. Possibly take sleds or toboggans – you can sled or toboggan towards the town from the weather crosses.

Starting point of the tour

Hollenthon town center in the park next to the new community office

Destination point of the tour

Hollenthon town center at the Posch inn

Route description WEATHER EDUCATIONAL TRAIL Hollenthon

From the starting board in the middle of the community park, the path leads towards the Raiffeisenbank. Opposite the residential building is the second weather board. Then the gently ascending path runs along the ridge above Hollenthon to the widely visible weather crosses. From here, there is a great view of the town and the entire surrounding area. This view can also be previewed via three weather cameras from Hollenthon. The path continues past the Hollenthon weather station, whose weather data can be accessed. Afterwards, it goes downhill back to the town. Upon reaching the main street, turn left and go to the final board opposite the Posch inn.

Directions

Coming from the A2, take the Lanzenkirchen exit. Then you go via Lanzenkirchen, Schleinz up to the “Fernblick” – wonderful view of Rax, Schneeberg and Hohe Wand – continue via Hochwolkersdorf and Wiesmath to Hollenthon.

Parking

Free parking spaces are sufficiently available at the community park in the town center.

Safety information

Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a completely enjoyable and safe experience. Please note the following:

Preparation

Make sure when selecting your route that it matches your hiking experience and fitness. Check the weather forecast beforehand. Weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Always start appropriately equipped (e.g., rain protection).

Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit are open. Inform someone about your chosen route and your planned return before setting off.

Author's tip

A visit to the baroque furnished parish church is recommended. The church, once built as a fortified church, is known for its statues on the pulpit. If locked, please collect the key from the parish yard (large cube-shaped building above the church). During this, you can also sample the “high-spirited” fine brandies of our parish priest. At the end of the weather educational trail route, we recommend the POSCH inn for refreshment. (Closed Mon+Tue).

STICKELBERG (about 3 KM from Hollenthon) - Inn “Zum Stickelberg” GANSAUGE-OBERGER (Closed Mon+Tue+Wed)
