Discover Austria’s “Bucklige Welt” by e-bike

How to recharge the batteries with pleasure when discharging them

400 picturesque, panoramic, nature-packed kilometres of cycle paths on an area slightly larger than Vienna make Austria’s “Bucklige Welt” a paradise for pedestrians.

Austria’s “Bucklige Welt” makes a cyclist’s heart beat faster not only because of its topography: Varied routes, dreamy villages and breathtaking views as far as Schneeberg, Rax and Semmering beckon. If you ride your e-bike in the hilly country south of Vienna, you will pass some of the most beautiful spots in Lower Austria – for example, along the relaxing panorama route in Bad Schönau, past the castle ruins and the “Passionsspielhaus”.

Charging stations for bikes and bikers

So that the cycling excursion doesn’t start with a complicated journey, 12 businesses offer e-bikes for hire. There are more than 20 charging stations for bikes along the routes – and, of course, there are also opportunities for cyclists to charge their own batteries. For example, with a scoop of butter biscuit ice cream at Eis-Greissler in Krumbach or fresh goat cheese at Biohof Mandl in Lichtenegg.

For longer breaks and overnight stays, there is the Krumbacherhof, a bed+bike establishment with bike garage, workshop and laundry service near EuroVelo9 and the Zöbernbach cycle path. The hosts are enthusiastic cyclists themselves, and know the most beautiful routes in the area. Chef Andreas Ottner also likes to take his guests on an e-bike tour, something akin to “pleasure biking” with stops at his suppliers.
