Brief description

Nice circular hiking route from Krumbach to Kraxenberg over about ten kilometers with a walking time of around three hours.

Description

The hike on Kraxenberg offers a beautiful nature experience in a quiet landscape and also passes by cultural-historical highlights. On the way, you pass the listed Holzbauerkapelle, the Wagenhoferkapelle, and the Kraxenbergkapelle as well as a 17th-century figures image column. At the Wagenhoferkapelle, the route can be extended to the Eis-Greissler manufactory. Those who want to take a break from everyday life can do so on the circular hiking route and relax while hiking over meadows, fields, and forests. At the top of Kraxenberg, you enjoy the fresh air and seclusion where only a few farmhouses are found. Back down in Krumbach, you reach the Museumsdorf, where a local history museum has been set up in the former Bürger hospital. Those who want to refresh themselves after the hike can do so at the Gasthof Heissenberger and at the Krumbacherhof.

Many regional routes of the Vienna Alpine Arc also lead to and from Krumbach, such as the route to Gschaidt via Krumbach Castle, the route to Maria Schnee, or the route to Kirchschlag.

Route description Hiking Krumbach: Kraxenberg

From our starting point at the Krumbach municipal car park, we go right through Schulgasse, turn left towards the federal road, and cross it. Now we continue along Königseggstraße, follow the green marking, and go right up the field path to the paved road (if you continue straight at the Wagenhofer Chapel, you will also pass the Eis-Greissler manufactory).

Follow the road to the 1st chapel, turn left there and after about 100 m turn left into the forest path (Hohlweg), heading towards Ransgraben, Kraxenberg. Paved road left to the state road, continue right towards the Zöberntal cycle path in the direction of "Edelbrände Kölbel - Kraxenberg" up through the forest path to the farmhouse (Kölbel – Edelbrände). Along the field path and cross the stream, go up through the forest to the farm (Kölbel - Edelbrände). In front of the farmhouse, take the forest path down on the right and then along the edge of the field. Then right leads to the paved road. Along this, follow the ridge, past a chapel, and to the last farmhouse, where the paved road ends. Pass above the house and continue straight along the field path until you come down to the forest path; after the forest path, keep left at the field near the high seat; going down to the Zöberntal cycle path, you reach Schlossstraße. Go right on to Unterhaus and return via the Hohe Brücke - Alte Straße - Museumsdorf to the municipal car park.
