Route description WAB - Regional Route C: Krumbach - Kirchschlag

The Regional Route C starts at the Krumbach municipal office, near the bus stop "Krumbach Markt". For those not yet ready to start, a visit to the Krumbach Museum Village is recommended.

The first meters of the route lead slightly downhill along Marktstraße. Before the bridge over Pfarrbach, turn left onto Tiefenbachstraße towards Katzentürl and Lindenhof. The road rises uphill and soon leads in a right curve onto the Lindenhof farm road towards Bad Schönau. The view sweeps to Krumbach Castle, and the Rosary Chapel is reached. Here, turn left onto the red-marked forest path, which is also signposted as the Marienweg to Mariazell. On narrow paths, the route passes the Place of Silence to the Strobl farm. The route takes a right curve and crosses the Tiefenbach on a wooden footbridge. At the following crossroads, the path leads right along a track with a middle strip, which is followed for some time.

After house no. 133 and shortly after a bridge, a turnoff at a rest area leads left into a driveway. The path leads left past the house and goes uphill in a right curve along hiking trail D9 and the Marienweg. After a few minutes, after a left bend, the path immediately turns right and ascends steeply. Two minutes later, the path crosses a forest road, and shortly thereafter the forest path merges into another forest road, where the route turns right again.

Less than 100 meters after leaving the forest, there is a right turn onto a field path, with the Bacherbauer farm in sight. The path leads left past the farm, slightly uphill on a farm road which finally meets an asphalt road. Here, turn right to follow the Panorama Road for the next hour towards Kirchschlag. Many noble families once regarded Kirchschlag Castle as their residence; today, the castle within the Passion Play town is freely accessible.

In Kirchschlag, the path leads by the Passion Play House over a bridge crossing the Zöbernbach to Passion Play Street. Directly after the church and before the Zöbernbach, turn left onto the footpath. Shortly after, the way leads right at the rose garden into Kirchengasse and over two bridges onwards to the main square. There, turn left and shortly after, after Hotel Post / Hönigwirt, turn right again towards the information board for the Wiener Alpenbogen and the Kaiser Franz Josef Monument. The Regional Route C ends here.

It is possible to follow the Wiener Alpenbogen on foot to Bad Schönau and subsequently walk the Regional Route D back to Krumbach. A visit to Kirchschlag Castle is also worthwhile. Besides overnight stays in Kirchschlag, there is also the possibility to return to Krumbach by regular bus. The bus stop is located directly on the main street next to Hotel Post.
