Holidaying with your 4-legged friend

Accommodation where dogs are not only allowed, but also welcome

Our faithful animals accompany us in everyday life – and they should not be left behind on holiday either. And, of course, dogs and their owners should feel equally comfortable.

An increasing number of dog owners are deciding to take their four-legged companions with them on holiday, and are delighted when they receive a friendly welcome in hotels, holiday apartments and guesthouses. Many establishments are already well-prepared for animal visitors and provide a pleasant atmosphere for humans and dogs alike.

In Austria’s “Bucklige Welt”, active guests in the company of their animals will feel particularly at home. Hiking and cycling trails lead along low-traffic paths, along streams and forests where dogs can really cool off, local inns will entice you with inviting terraces for a culinary stopover and the vantage points along the hiking routes offer magnificent views over Austria’s “Bucklige Welt”.

Please inform the accommodation before your arrival that you are coming with your pet – so that there are no surprises!

With these tips, your holiday with your 4-legged friend will be relaxed:

  • Even when a leash is not compulsory, dogs should – if possible – be kept on a leash.
  • When choosing a tour, pay attention not only to your own physical condition, but also to that of your dog. Start with a flat tour and build up to the next challenge!
  • Find out about opportunities to cool down (streams & rivers) along the tour and make sure you have enough breaks in the shade.
  • For mountain hikes, a chest harness is recommended instead of a leash.
  • Take enough water and food not only for yourself, but also for the dog.
  • Collect your dog’s excrement in a bag – this way, other hikers will still be able to enjoy the trail.
  • Take special care when in the vicinity of grazing livestock:
  • Walk calmly and briskly with your dog on the leash and keep enough distance.
  • Always keep an eye on the animals so that you can react early enough.
  • Avoid direct contact with animals that are on the pasture with their young.
  • Young animals are often curious and boisterous – therefore, be sure to keep enough distance.
  • If an attack is foreseeable, let your dog off the leash. The dog, unlike you, is fast and agile enough to avoid attacks.
