Knowing where great things come from

In addition to countless hiking routes and cycle paths along the region’s typical “Buckln”, Austria’s “Bucklige Welt” is also worth a trip for those interested in culinary delights. That’s because there you can not only eat well, but also watch over the shoulders of farmers, distillers and beer brewers hard at work.

On guided tours at several live demonstrations in Austria’s “Bucklige Welt”, you can watch how milk is turned into ice cream or cheese, hops, malt and water into beer, or fruit into fine spirits.

And behind the scenes: Ice cream, beer and schnapps

There are three businesses in Krumbach where you can follow the production process step by step: At Eis-Greissler, you can explore the manufactory and the experience zone, at Edelbrand-Sommelier Werner Kölbel, you can enjoy a guided tour from the boss himself and at Schwarzbräu, you get an insight into the history and production of beer. At the private brewery Wolfsbräu in Thernberg, you can discover the production of the “Bucklige Weltbier”.

A visit to happy goats

At Ziegenhof Mandl in Lichtenegg, great importance is attached to the goats being able to pursue their favourite pastimes: climbing, jumping and frolicking about – because happy goats make the best goat’s cheese, as every visitor can see for themselves during the tasting during the tour.
