Details for: Archduke Johann Circular Hiking Trail - Scheiblingkirchen

Brief description

The extensive circular hike leads from the center of Scheiblingkirchen via Gleißenfeld up to the Türkensturz and back via Thernberg. The relaxing hiking route mostly runs on well-maintained paths, partly on trails.

Description

The hike starts at the Romanesque round church in Scheiblingkirchen (370 m) and leads through the Höllgraben to Witzelsberg to the Heimkehrerkreuz. It continues through the forest to the Rehgartlkreuz, over the Hartberg to the Hubertus Chapel and down to Gleißenfeld to the Türkensturz. From there, steeply uphill via the Sollgrabenalm to Weingart and on to Thernberg. The route ends in Scheiblingkirchen.

Archduke Johann, the namesake of the hike, acquired Thernberg Castle in 1807 and promoted the region. Finally, the route offers an art exhibition with sculptures between Thernberg and Scheiblingkirchen.
